This summer, I have had the privilege of volunteering at a Butterfly House at a local park. When Ricky posted the Wonderland challenge, I knew immediately that I wanted to do something related to my experience at the butterfly house. This butterfly house is a place where visitors can come and experience a wide variety of butterfly species, flying and fluttering around an enclosed area that looks a bit like a greenhouse. Inside, children and adults alike are greeted by these tiny, magical creatures that flutter through the air ever so gently. The butterflies are so delicate and colorful that I look at them as sort of like flying flowers. This is a place of peace and calm, where people can come for a moment's respite from all the day's chores and challenges. Some people stay for a few minutes, and others find a seat and just sit and absorb the atmosphere for longer times. You hear the squeals and giggles of delight as a butterfly lands on a child's arm. And oh, how they love that. Adults love it too. I even had a visitor tell me that her therapist recommended that she visit the butterfly house. But what is it about these graceful creatures that has this kind of effect on people? I don't know, but this certainly is a happy place. And any place that could bring some smiles during these extraordinary & challenging times must be a Wonderland.
